Aims
- We aim to develop understanding of the spoken and written forms of the Modern Foreign Language in a range of contexts.
- Develop the ability to communicated effectively in the modern foreign language through both the spoken and the written word, using a range of vocabulary and structures.
- Apply their knowledge and understanding in a variety of relevant contexts which reflect their previous learning and maturity.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of countries and communities where the modern foreign language is spoken.
- Develop positive attitudes to modern foreign language learning.
- Provide a suitable foundation for further study and/or practical use of the modern foreign language.

Study Tips
Top Ten Hottest Tips for Learning Vocabulary
- Jumble words up then match the English to the French/German
- Ask someone to test you
- Learn 5 words at a time
- Read them, then go away for ten minutes, come back and see how many you can remember
- Colour code words, e.g. masculine words in blue and feminine words in pink
- Read them every night before you go to sleep
- Teach someone else the words
- Start a bank of words on your computer on in a book
- Write the words on sticky labels and then stick them around the house. Be careful on furniture though!
- Learn the difficult ones first
How you can help your child in Languages
Parents often ask us how they can help their child to learn a foreign language and listed below are some ways in which you can help to raise your child's achievement.
- Find out when language homework is set and remind your child when it should be done
- Check that homework has been completed and the presentation is acceptable
- Buy a dictionary and help them to use it
- Try to motivate your child and emphasise the importance of learning a language for their future and the fun that can result. Careers using languages include: retail, catering, journalism, travel, engineering and professional football.
- Test your child on their vocabulary. Try to ensure that they write the words down when revising
- Ask them to tell you what they have been learning
- Encourage them to look over new and previously learnt words on a regular basis, even if no test has been set
- Get them to teach you or another member of the family what they have been learning
