Curriculum
All students in Key Stage 3 take courses that follow the required National Curriculum subjects.
There are 3 core subjects: Mathematics, English and Science.
There are 8 foundation subjects: Art, Geography, History, Modern Languages, Music, Physical Education, Technology and ICT.
Key Stage 3 students also take a course that follows the locally agreed syllabus in Religious Education. In addition to this they take courses in Citizenship / PSHE and Drama.
In Key Stage 4 there is some added flexibility in the curriculum offer. All students continue to follow courses in Mathematics, English, Science, Citizenship (including the required elements of the RE agreed syllabus) and Physical Education.
Students then choose an additional five subjects from a range of courses that include:
GCSE French, German, History, Geography, Sociology, RE, ICT, Business Studies, Art, Drama, Music, Statistics, Media, Sports Studies, Graphics, Resistant Materials, Catering, Textiles, Leisure and Tourism, GNVQ ICT, Community Awareness
Our stated aim of achievement for all is facilitated by the broad and balanced curriculum on offer and is supported by the many other initiative and developments that assist the delivery of the curriculum and the assessment of student progress.
These include: a thorough assessment programme reporting progress to parents twice yearly, a well-established mentoring programme, enhanced ICT facilities in all subject areas, a strong Special Educational Needs Department, clear identification of exceptionally able students with supporting with supporting curricular and extra curricular activities, a very active Careers Department with a very effective Work Experience programme.
